Food Enforcement Code of Practice

Food law enforcementThe Food Standards Agency have released the latest version of the Food Law Code of Practice  (England) for consultation.  A copy can be downloaded here.

The consltation is divided into two main parts, relating to how frequently premises are inspected and the division of enforcement responsibility.

As far as risk assessment is concerned, the proposal is to increase the consistency in risk scoring by updating and clarifying the risk descriptors used to assign risk scores and improving the effectiveness in enforcement by redistributing the  frequency of inspections for a number of businesses to allow enforcement to focus on risk categories and businesses that are do not comply with the law.

The division of enforcement responsibilities in co-located meat establishments is expected to become easier with the ability to transfer overlapping enforcement powers to a single competent authority.
